Your Questions About Best Hot Tub Chemicals

Lisa asks…

What chemical(s) or cleaning agent(s) work best when cleaning the tub portion of a hot tub?

I figure there isn’t much I can’t or shouldn’t use seeing as the thing is routinely filled with chlorinated water.

Just curious if anyone has recommendations for better-than-the-other cleaners ..

Thanks.

The tub color is white and not especially dirty to begin with. The tub has not been used for 2-3 years but was covered most of that time.

Hay, If you have not tried a soap scum remover for bathtubs, you may want to try that! The works is pretty good, or check with Lowe’s or Home Depot for one! Also the Dollar General Store sell Awesome, and it is Awesome! Hope this helps for You!

Whats the best thing to use to clean a Whirl Pool Hot tub?

We just moved into a house and it has a whirl pool hot tub in the bathroom. What types of bathroom chemicals can I use to clean it with and what do I use to clean out the jets? This is my first whirl pool and I want to make sure I’m cleaning it right.
Please let me know.
How often should you clean your jets?

spafanatic answers:

Clean the tub using gentle cleaning products designed for your tub. Most jetted tubs are made from acrylic or fiberglass and can be scratched if you use harsh cleaning methods.
Step2Fill the tub with warm water, making sure you’re covering all the jets.
Step3Add a small amount of dishwashing soap to water and swirl it so it’s well mixed into the water. You can also try cleaning products such as Spa Jetline Cleaner specifically made for cleaning a jetted bathtub. You can also contact PurgeTech for other products designed for cleaning a jetted bathtub.
Step4Turn the jets on and let them run for about 10 minutes.
Step5Drain the tub and let air dry.
Using Bleach in a Jetted Bathtub
Step1Put warm water into the tub, making sure you’re covering all the jets.
Step2Include about a cup of bleach to the water.
Step3Switch on the jets, making sure you haven’t filled the tub so high that if the bleach water splashes it won’t stain anything. Leave the jets on for at least 10 minutes.
Step4Let the water out of the bathtub.
Step5Rinse away any standing bleach water.
Step6Refill the tub using only warm water and turn the jets back on. This will help you rinse any residual bleach water in the jets so you don’t end up bathing in bleach water.

Paul asks…

If a hot tub has turned half of my hair bright green, what is the best option?

I have highlighted blond hair….so far, I have used tomato sauce, lemon juice, & a clarifying shampoo every day since it happened and it has decreased the green effects….I’m trying to avoid putting salon treated chemicals or bleach on my hair because it is very long and the green stuff itself has dried my hair out. Does anyone know if by continuing what I am doing, will the green eventually fade completely?

spafanatic answers:

There’s a shampoo called Ultra Swim. It’s for swimmers to get chlorine build-up out of their hair.
I actually had the exact same thing happen to me… Green hair from a hot tub. The Ultra Swim stuff worked for me after using it 3 or 4 times.
You should be able to get the green out of your hair.
Make sure you deep condition it soon!

George asks…

Does anyone have any tips for hot tubs…just moved into a place and have never had an outdoor one before?

I just dont know anything about hot tubs….YET! Best way to clean? Chemicals to clean with before fill? PH after fill? Any advise would rock!

spafanatic answers:

Here is a site for hot tub care.
I have one as well.. You have to continually every night check the pH balance and the chlorine in it.. You have to have the chlorine in it or you have to change you water ever few days..
Hope it helps:)

Richard asks…

What kind of chemical treatment should I use for a hot tub?

I recently bought a house that came with an outdoor hot tub. I’ve heard there are lots of different chemical treatments, but don’t know what would be best. I wont use it a whole lot, and I don’t really want the chemical vapors to be too overpowering. I’d also like it to be easily maintainable.

spafanatic answers:

Hot tubs do require a bit of maintenance. It is suggested that you go to your nearest pool supply store where they will: test your water (usually free), recommend chemicals and give you a regimen of maintenance. What you need can be found at this website as well: http://www.hottubs2buy.co.uk/how_to_maintain.html

If the hot tub doesn’t have a cover, I would highly recommend one. In periods of little or no use, the cover can reduce the amount of chemicals you require as well as helping to keep it clean. When we put a cover on our hot tub, the amount of chemicals we used dropped by about 1/3.

Good luck.
